Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Robert L. Smolen served as the second Air Force District of Washington commander April 2006 through June 2007. At the time the Headquarters AFDW was physically located at Bolling Air Force Base, D.C. He relinquished command to Maj. Gen. Frank Gorenc in June 2007.
