1 HS executes ‘Angel Thunder’ Exercise
A couple of 1st Helicopter Squadron pilots perform preflight operations on a squadron UH-1N helicopter, prior to executing their mission in support of Angel Thunder White Cell April 13. The exercise, which was supported by 13 combined aircrew members and pilots, involved 1st HS inserting simulated survivors and Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape instructors, in remote regions of southern Arizona and New Mexico, prior to the exercise periods. First Helicopter Squadron also supported public affairs and distinguished visitor missions. The 1 HS crews flew approximately 35.5 hours in 20 sorties, carrying 65 passengers in support of the exercise. Angel Thunder is the world's premier personnel recovery exercise. The exercise which ran from April 13 through April 22, involved 53 aircraft, 1060 personnel, and generated 883.8 total flight hours.
