Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff issued a statement and fielded questions from reporters prior to departing Andrews AFB for Louisiana August 28. Secretary Chertoff, who briefed President Bush earlier in the day, will oversee preparations prior to Hurricane Gustav’s landfall and urged citizens residing in the Gulf of Mexico area to follow recommendations made by their government officials in regards to safety and evacuation procedures.
