Airmen go above, beyond for “Bonehead”
Capt. Francis T. Evans, Jr., (left) comes from family of pilots. He served during World War II as an Army Air Forces fighter pilot in Europe, flying more than 100 missions. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for protecting a downed wingman in combat. His father, Col. Francis T. Evans, Sr., (center) also earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for performing a loop while flying a seaplane and pioneered stall and spin recovery techniques. His younger brother Capt. Douglas K.
