Simulation Center Offers Realistic Training for Critical Care Air Transport Team
Air Force Capt. (Dr.) Katherine Ellis works to improve the breathing of "a patient" during a Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCAT) Simulation Day training exercise at Walter Reed Bethesda simulation center on Dec. 11. The "patient" had bilateral pulmonary contusions and rib fractures, as well as abdominal injuries and an injury to his left femoral artery. During the simulation, the patient developed a left sided tension pneumothorax which required decompression with a 14-gauge needle and chest tube placement, Ellis explained. (Photo by Bernard S.
