Finger print
Arlene Wagner, Gold Star mother, places her finger on a scanner for a Gold Star Base Access ID card at Joint Base Andrews, Md., May 1, 2017. These cards are part of an Air Force initiative allowing Gold Star families unescorted access to Air Force installations to visit buried loved ones, attend base events, and stop by Airmen and Family Readiness Centers for support. To welcome more Gold Star families to base through this program, each member is scheduled to receive a letter signed by the Air Force installation commander closest to where they reside informing them of the Air Force-wide implementation scheduled to begin May 15, 2017. The Air Force initiative refers to parents, grandparents, siblings and adult children of Airmen killed in action, international terrorist attack against the U.S. or military operations while serving outside the U.S. as part of a peacekeeping force.
