Leadership announces an increase to Joint Base Andrews’ small business contract goal

010910 | Sept. 14, 2010

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. — Col. Ken Rizer, 316th Wing and Joint Base Andrews commander, announced an increase to Joint Base Andrews' small business contract goal above and beyond the Air Force goal, from 43 to 50 percent of Andrews' contracts. This unprecedented increase will inject approximately 10 million dollars more into small business contracts during fiscal year 2011, of which approximately four million dollars will go to the small businesses in Prince George's County and the State of Maryland.
This will boost opportunities for local small businesses, provide jobs to Maryland residents, and distribute federal dollars throughout the state, according to the installation's contracting squadron commander.

"Joint Base Andrews is committed to supporting the local community and promoting local commerce" said Lt. Col. Christopher Daniels, 316th Contracting Squadron commander. "This is just one of many steps we are taking to solidify relationships with our neighbors. We take great pride in knowing this action will significantly improve small business opportunities and hopefully serve as a model for the rest of the Air Force."

The Air Force Small Business Program at Joint Base Andrews plays a vital role in providing affordable, effective and sustainable warfighting capabilities. To ensure that small business firms obtain a fair share of Air Force contracts, the Air Force Small Business Program Office sets installation small business goals each fiscal year. Joint Base Andrews' fiscal year 2011 Air Force small business goal is 43 percent of all wing contracting dollars.
