Studio Booking Policy

Studio photography is by appointment only and available for official portraits as required by AFI as well as applications for special duty assignments, official passports, and citizenship applications. Chain-of-command studio photography will be provided for leadership at the squadron-level and above (commander, deputy/vice commander, senior enlisted leader, and first sergeant) as well as quarterly and annual award winners at the group-level and above. HQ staff is limited to Directorate-level equivalents. 

Exceptions to the official studio photography stipulations are permitted with proper justification annotated within DoDI, AFI, and/or package descriptions explaining the need for an official photo. A commander’s email or unit tasker does not meet the justification requirement for having an official photo taken.

Official imagery may not be altered, unless it is specifically exempted by Department of Defense Instruction (DODI) 5040.2, Visual Information. Examples of requests that will not be supported include changes to personal appearance in an official portrait.

  • General officer portraits
  • Chain-of-command studio photography for leadership at the squadron-level and above (commander, deputy commander, senior enlisted leader, and first sergeant)
    • HQ staff is limited to Directorate-level equivalents
  • Key staff from prominent support agencies with a regulation-directed requirement (IG, SARC, ADC, EO, etc.)
  • Applications for special duty assignments
  • Applications for special programs or specialized units
  • Official passports, isolated personnel report photos for aircrews, and other administrative or contingency mission items
  • Quarterly and annual award winners at the group-level and above (Must be scheduled through your Group Exec)


Not Supported
  • Members not assigned to Joint Base Andrews or a unit with an active public affairs support agreement
  • Promotions or retirements
  • To have on file for future use
  • Microsoft Outlook or SharePoint
  • Official biographies without a regulation-directed requirement
  • Department of the Army portraits (¾-length with blue background)
  • Department of the Navy portraits (¾-length)
    • Members assigned to NAF-W, refer to "Mission Partner Studios"
  • Unit-specific tasker

  • Official passports, isolated personnel report photos for aircrews, and other administrative or contingency mission items only. Regular (blue) passports are not supported.

Professional Photo Sessions
High-resolution photos for general use such as retirement/promotion, Microsoft Outlook, SharePoint, etc.

  • Available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Do not submit a portal request.
  • Members may take photos in their uniform of choice, but should arrive already changed.
  • Professional headshots are not considered "official photos" IAW AFH 35-115.
  • Sessions are not intended for units to establish professional photos as unit-wide taskers.
Date & Time: Tuesday, June 24 from 9-11 a.m. 
Location: 1500 West Perimeter Road, 1st floor, Joint Base Andrews, MD 20762 (Enter through the right door, first floor)

Step 1: Confirm your eligibility

  • Are you assigned to Joint Base Andrews or to a unit with an active public affairs support agreement?
  • Does your request for official studio photography meet the studio booking policy?

Step 2: Submit a "Studio Photography" request through our customer service portal


Step 3: Attach supporting documentation when submitting a request (Required)
  • Examples: passport control letter, package application
  • A commander’s email or unit tasker does not meet the justification requirement for having an official photo taken. Requests without sufficient supporting documentation will be denied.

Step 4: Your appointment is not confirmed until you receive an "Approved" email
