89th CS Airman's quick action SABC saves Virginia man's life

A dozen Airmen and family members from the 89th Communications Squadron rest during a hike at Shenandoah National Park, Va., Aug. 10. Later that day, a Virginia man fell about four feet and smash his head on a boulder. 89th CS airborne communications technicians Airman 1st Class Andrew Pranzo and Tech. Sgt. Jeffery Boyette, and Karen Boyette, treated a Y-shaped gash in the man’s forehead using Pranzo’s shoelace and a pair of shorts from a small child’s diaper bag. Pranzo then assisted the man in a two-mile walk out of the mountains while carrying his young granddaughter. (Courtesy photo)

Logistics Planner Recognized for His Efforts

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. – Airman 1st Class John O’Rourke, 11th Logistics Readiness Squadron logistics planner, is this week’s Warrior of the Week for his success in his career field here, August 27, 2014. O’Rourke provides daily deployment planning and execution support to over 1,000 organizations across the National Capital Region. 

The Detroit, Michigan, native single handedly booked over 23 averted flights, totaling $45,000 within two days. Also, his attention to detail enabled him to identify and submit 10 change requests to Air Force District of Washington, ensuring deployed service members arrival to their destination was safe and on time.

O’Rourke enlisted into the Air Force in August, 2013 for educational and career opportunities and to travel the world. His primary interest is playing football. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Joshua R. M. Dewberry)
