Farewell to Chief Topa

By Airman 1st Class Valentina Lopez 11th Wing Public Affairs

Chief Master Sgt. Beth Topa, retired 11th Wing command chief master sergeant, said her farewells at The Courses on Joint Base Andrews, Md., Dec. 20.

Topa officially retired on Dec. 9 after serving 24 years in the U.S. Air Force, six months of which were spent as the 11th WG command chief.

“I’m going to miss the camaraderie and military atmosphere,” said Topa. “It’s really hard to retire when I love what I do so much.”

In her role at JBA, she advised the 11th WG commander on all enlisted force matters and issues regarding the welfare, readiness, utilization, morale and quality of life for personnel.

“This was an awesome opportunity to serve my nation,” said Topa. “We all have a purpose as leaders to be the truly best person we can be, so we can bring out the best in the people around us.”

Topa loved interacting with the Airmen and visiting them in their work environment.

“Airmen tell me how I’ve inspired them, but as much as I’ve impacted them, they’ve impacted me,” said Topa.

Being involved with service members and in their activities on base can get busy.

“I go to the First Term Airmen Course and Airman Leadership School, telling Airmen how important it is to balance family and work. My kids are my heart and soul, but I suddenly realized I wasn’t doing what I was preaching.”

With Topa’s retirement, JBA welcomes her replacement, Chief Master Sgt. Nathaniel Perry, 79th Medical Wing command chief master sergeant.

“I am excited and humbled to assume the position,” said Perry. “My goal is to be a big advocate of the 11th WG members. We have a phenomenal mission that is performed at an inspirational level by amazing Airmen and Sailors. We will continue to build a Team Andrews community that our patrons and families will be proud to be part of.”

Perry is scheduled to assume the position Jan. 12, 2017.
