JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
On May 17 Imagine Andrews, a charter school located on Joint Base Andrews, received two threats via social media. The school promptly contacted Joint Base Andrews Security Forces and local police.
11th Wing first responders immediately responded to the threat. Security Forces and Explosive Ordinance Disposal members swept the building and determined no signs of a threat.
"Safety is paramount," said Col. Julie Grundahl, 11th Wing and JBA vice commander. "Our first responders are trained to handle situations like this to ensure the school, and its most valuable asset, the children who attend, are safe.”
The social media posts made a specific threat to the school for Thursday morning, and school staff and security forces are doing everything they can to ensure that the school stays safe. It will open on time, though the Youth Center will offer expanded before school care as an alternative for concerned parents.
The threats are still under investigation in a close coordination between Joint Base Andrews Office of Special Investigations and Security Forces, and the Prince George’s County Police.
