Starting in February, the Visitor Control Center will no longer be open on Saturdays.

The VCC controls entry to Joint Base Andrews by checking identification and vetting individual’s backgrounds to determine the necessity for base access.

"[The VCC] decided to close on Saturdays to better equip, train and deploy JBA defenders," said Tech. Sgt. Skylar Rudy, 11th Security Support Squadron NCO in charge of the VCC. "On top of running the VCC, Airmen here must keep up their monthly training for pre-deployment and their security forces career field."

Another reason for the closure is due to low numbers of customers coming into the VCC on Saturdays. During a five-month customer use study, an average of 13 customers came into the VCC for services each Saturday, as compared to weekdays, which averaged more than 100.

"This change will minimally affect the VCC's ability to get customers access to base," Rudy said. “To better assist our customers in mitigating the effect on them, they can submit visitor requests for their unofficial guests in advance.”

The VCC’s future operation hours will be Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., with closures on weekends, federal holidays and Air Force District of Washington/11th Wing family days.

Detailed instructions, as well as the request form, can be found on the VCC web page by clicking here. For more information, contact the VCC at 301-981-0689.
