ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. –
As the April unit compliance inspection draws near, Ellsworth members continue to prepare by participating in squadron walkthroughs meant to simulate an actual Inspector General UCI inspection.
The UCI walkthrough allows Airmen to practice meeting, greeting, interviewing, answering questions and maintaining professionalism while showcasing programs in a similar fashion to an actual IG inspection, said Lt. Col. Rory Adams, 28 BW Exercises and Evaluations. "It also allows the wing another opportunity to put additional eyes on its programs, helping our Airmen to greater success."
The walkthroughs will be performed by Col. Peter Castor, 28th Bomb Wing vice commander, who will act as the IG, evaluating each unit at Ellsworth.
"Walkthroughs are a common practice used by units preparing for inspections," Colonel Castor said. "Our [28th Bomb Wing Exercises and Evaluations] shop has sought out the best practices across the Air Force, and we are utilizing these tools to excel in the UCI."
"As I visit each section with [28 XP], we are able to provide each unit insight into what they should expect during the actual inspection," Colonel Castor said. "Additionally, our visits allow us to refine our wing game plan and provide a cross-flow of practices we view as key to excelling in the UCI."
The walkthroughs are also meant to aide Team Ellsworth in maintaining its continued focus on UCI preparation.
"As everyone knows, the wing maintains a very busy schedule. From day-to-day [operations], to preparing and then actually deploying, today's Airmen balance the demands of numerous competing priorities," Colonel Castor said.
"Walkthroughs will assist the entire wing by keeping their focus on UCI preparation among their many competing demands," he said. "It's also a great opportunity for me to get out and visit wing personnel and recognize their hard work."
The walkthrough also provides units an opportunity to showcase their progress, highlight and address any areas of concern they may have, allowing the units time to correct any discrepancies before the Inspector General arrives, said Senior Master Sgt. James Russell, 28 BW staff superintendent.
"Success in the April UCI will be the result of a team effort spanning the entire wing, leveraging unit expertise, unit leadership, and XP oversight," Colonel Castor said.
