City Council Gives OK To Abilene's Fireworks Show For July 4

By Merlin Mann KTXS News

Abilene's July 4th fireworks show will fire away as scheduled.

The Independence Day fireworks show scheduled for Nelson Park on the night of July 4 was approved by the City Council without discussion.

The item was on the City Council's consent agenda, which means a motion was made to approve several routine items without discussion.

Some observers thought the issue might be discussed after Taylor County Judge Downing Bolls issued a disaster declaration last week because of ongoing and widespread fire danger.

Because drought conditions and hot, windy weather, wildfires have been burning across the Big Country this week.

The city of Tye, which had a fireworks show scheduled for July 1, on Tuesday canceled its show its show.
