PITTSBURGH, Calif. –
The United States Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants performed for more than 1,500 community members in Hayward and Pittsburgh, Calif. Oct., 12-13, as a part of the 2012 Fall Tour.
The band's first concert, titled "Carnival," highlighted music from Argentina, Brazil and even New York's Broadway district.
During the 14-day tour of the west cost, the band will travel more than 750 miles from San Francisco, to Tempe, Ariz., performing at high schools, colleges, performing art centers and even Disneyland.
This is the first tour for U.S. Air Force Band commander, Col. Larry H. Lang.
"I'm thrilled to present this remarkable ensemble to audiences in California and Arizona. These incredible Airmen musicians are emblematic of the excellence found in every career field across the Air Force every day," Lang said.
The next stop of the tour is Oct. 15 at the San Luis Obispo Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The concert is free and open to the public; however, tickets are required.
The Concert Band and Singing Sergeants have travelled around the globe for more than 70 years, representing the U.S. Air Force and the country as part of the U.S. Air Force Band.
The concerts are held to honor veterans, showcase the global Air Force mission, inspire patriotism and foster an interest in military service.
"We are here to bring the Air Force to you; to get your community and our Air Force, our military, together to build and strengthen partnerships," said 2nd Lt. Peter Folliard, Officer in Charge, Singing Sergeants.
