JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
Andrews' Company Grade Officer's Council (CGOC) is a network of company grade officers stationed on Andrews who spend their off-duty time together volunteering, supporting local events, raising money for charities and interacting with community members. In the latest issue of "Around the Air Force," the Air Force CGOC quarterly newsletter, Joint Base Andrews was named Eastern Region CGOC of the quarter.
According to the newsletter, Andrews' CGOC won the recognition after hosting Col. Gregory Rosenmerkel, 11th Mission Support Group commander, and Navy Capt. Randy Johnson, former Naval Air Facility Washington commander, for discussions on "Taking Care of Your People" and "Benefits of Joint Basing." This event supported 31 area high schools and more than 700 students. Andrews CGOs also volunteered at two Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps competitions and raised more than $2,200 during two quarterly fundraisers, which also set the group apart for the distinction.
1st Lt. Titus Butler, Andrews CGOC president, is proud of the council's accomplishment and hopes that it will continue its stellar performance throughout the remainder of the year.
"I originally joined the CGOC to get to know my peers," said Butler. "Since then, I've learned that being a part of the CGOC is a great opportunity for networking between fellow CGOs and the community. I would recommend joining a CGOC to any CGO."
Additionally, with more than 50 active-duty members and free membership, Andrews' CGOC is always looking to impart its attitude of selfless service to any new CGO who is recently stationed on Andrews.
"Being a member of the CGOC sets you apart from the norm," said Butler. "We're always looking for new members who want to volunteer and get involved."
