JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
A solemn air filled the Joint Base Anacosita-Bolling Chapel Center Sept. 11 as a ceremony consisting of personal recollection, reverence and prayer helped mark the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks.
"I'm sure everyone remembers what they were doing ten years ago on 9/11," said Mr. Bobby Jones, 11th Wing Public Affairs contracted photographer. "But, the severity of the events really hit home though during the personal recollections part of the ceremony."
In attendance was Col. Ken Rizer, 11th Wing/Joint Base Andrews commander, who offered his recollections of where he was during the 9/11 terrorist attacks a decade prior. Rizer also commented on the military response and loss that has incurred since then.
The playing of Taps and the ringing of a ceremonial remembrance bell by John McDonald, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and Naval District Washington battalion fire chief, brought the observance to a close.
"In no way can the friends and family members of those lost on 9/11 ever truly be comforted," said Jones. "However, God's grace reminds us of the losses that could have been that day. The loss is significant still, but through the ceremony, I was reminded to be grateful for what's still here. We should all keep this in mind."
