WASHINGTON D.C., –
Members of the 317th Recruiting Squadron, headquartered in Oxon Hill, Md., are scheduled to lead the military portion of a diversity summit at the White House on July 29-31, recognizing the contributions of South Asian Americans to National Defense. This will be the first event of its kind held at the White House.
The summit focuses on energizing National Service and is titled "Impacting Change in America and Abroad." A portion of the conference focuses on strengthening ways American youth can serve. Master Sgt. Donald Day, 317th RCS Support Flight superintendent, will open the event by singing the National Anthem.
Lieutenant Colonel Ravi Chaudhary, 317th RCS commander, will discuss the importance of South Asian communities "Joining Forces" with the military and American public. He will also recognize active duty members of South Asian descent at the event for their military service. Mr. Jason Dempsey from the First Lady's "Joining Forces" program, will also attend and provide key remarks.
"This event is about inspiring American communities toward National service," Chaudhary said. "What better way to inspire our youth than to showcase the heroic contributions of our brave servicemembers and their families. The White House is a fitting place to honor them."
Senior White House officials, cabinet members, and members of Congress will be in attendance.
"Diversity is what makes our Nation strong, and in times of crisis, American servicemembers have always led the way," Chaudhary said. "This event is an opportunity for key leaders in government, industry, academia and faith-based communities to discuss key solutions to challenges facing our nation."
