Set your sights on reaching AFAF goal

The Air Force Assistance Fund Campaign begins Monday, March 14 and runs through April 22, 2011. This year's Air Force District of Washington campaign goal, based on military strength, is $74,760.

Anyone can contribute to this extremely worthwhile campaign that supports Air Force members, their families, widowed spouses and retirees. The AFAF is the official charity of the U.S. Air Force and supports four organizations: The Air Force Aid Society, Inc., the Air Force Enlisted Villages, Inc., the Air Force Villages, Inc., and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. Lemay Foundation.

These charities rely heavily on the donations from this once-a-year campaign, so it is a chance for donors to make a huge impact on our Air Force family through the donations collected for the next six weeks. If interested in giving, please contact your Unit Key Worker.

The AFDW campaign staff is focused on exceeding the overall campaign goals and has planned several events to make this year's campaign a command-wide success. Although a few are still in the planning stages, the first big event is an AFDW Command Run, led by Maj. Gen. Darren W. McDew, AFDW commander, that will commence at 3:30 p.m., March 15 and will start at the football field near the Military Personnel Flight building on Joint Base Andrews - NAF Washington. This event will give Maj. Gen. McDew the opportunity to address the participants on the importance of the AFAF and the importance of becoming an organization that gives back to our community.

The show time for the fun run is 3:15 p.m. and will be approximately 2 miles. Although mandatory for all non-mission essential military servicemembers, civilians and contractors are invited to participate.
