Many Andrews members get to play for free with the DePLAYment program

By Staff Sgt. Misty D. Slater 316th Wing Public Affairs

When the Year of the Air Force Family came to a close July 31, many Andrews members had the opportunity to take part in the DePLAYment program which provided families of deployed military members with many free base programs.

"The program was extremely beneficial to the Joint Base Andrews members," said Heather Fales, 316th Force Support Squadron events coordinator. "Through the DePLAYment program we were able to provide free theme park tickets, outdoor adventure trips, bowling, and youth programs to all military members that deployed or returned from deployment since July 2009."

According to myairforcelife.com, over 10,000 families Air Force-wide participated in the DePLAYment program.

"We had about 105 families take advantage of the DePLAYment program," Ms. Fales said.
It would cost a family of four, $276 for season passes to Kings Dominion or $212 for Sesame Place, but through the program it was free.

"All of the families that participated in the program thought the program was wonderful and were very appreciative of the program benefits," Ms. Fales said. "Overall the DePLAYment program saved the Joint Base Andrews members about $54,000."

Myairforcelife.com is still looking families who used the program to share their photos and stories about how their family enjoyed the DePLAYment program. For more information, go to www.myairforcelife.com.

Secretary Michael B. Donley and Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz designated July 2009 to July 2010 as "Year of the Air Force Family" and Air Force Services Agency officials initiated the DePLAYment program to provide families of deployed military members with free programs.
