The Airman and Family Readiness Center at Joint Base Andrews is dedicated to improving the quality of life of military families through information, support services and education.
The AFRC's goal is to provide the best support with a variety of programs and services that help alleviate stress caused by family separation and to provide tools to deal with everyday family issues.
"The Airman and Family Readiness Center provides services and information to assist service members and their families with the challenges and demands of military life," said Ms. Kim Myers, Acting Chief, Airmen and Family Readiness Center. "Our services also extend to Reserve and Guard members, Retirees and DoD Civilians."
The AFRC staff works to identify and clarify needs and determine the appropriate assistance or resource based upon the family or members' needs.
Transition and Employment Assistance services provides retiring, separating and demobilizing members and family members with information and skills needed for a successful transition and career goal success. This includes workshops on resume writing and review, interview preparation, a three-day Department of Labor Transition Assistance Program seminar, federal job search tips and classes on starting your own business.

The Airman and Family Readiness Center Volunteer Resources assist the installation through collaboration with on-base agencies to recruit, train, place and recognize volunteer service. The Volunteer Excellence Award is given out annually by the installation commander to recognize outstanding volunteer service to the community.
Attendees of the Personal Financial Readiness Community are offered one-on-one budget counseling and goal setting and educational workshops on credit management, car buying and Introduction to money management.
The Air Force Aid Society provides short term assistance for financial emergencies to active duty military and spouses with power of attorney. Individuals are scheduled to work with a community readiness consultant to assess the needs of the individual and if approved, receive an interest free loan. AFAS also provides funding to community outreach programs such as "Give Parents a Break," and "Car Care Because We Care" for deployed members and their families.
AFRC works with AFAS in providing a quarterly financial workshop for expectant parents "Bundles for Babies." This service provides a bundle layette to each parent that attends.
AFRC's Personal and Family Life Education services focuses on assisting customers to develop, improve or remediate interpersonal skill sets throughout the life cycle. Military Family Life Consultants are non medical short term solution focused counselors available to meet with members, families, DoD civilians and retirees concerning personal or work life issues.
The Air Force Wounded Warrior community readiness consultants assist combat-related ill or injured Airmen and their families in receiving personalized services and support, extended transition assistance and five-year case management follow up.
AFRC's Personal and Family Readiness provides assistance to members and families before, during and after deployment. The Readiness NCO acts as a point of contact for the Key Spouse program and provides training to unit volunteers filling this role. Monthly deployment support programs are available as well.
In addition to the core areas, the AFRC works with individuals, unit leadership, key spouses, and other base agencies to provide advice and assistance with personal and family readiness issues. Community Readiness Consultants work with units to provide training and in-unit services if requested.
