Installation commander nominated for promotion

316th Wing public affairs

Colonel Steven Shepro, commander of Joint Base Andrews and the 316th Wing, was among 29 Air Force colonels nominated for promotion to brigadier general by President Barack Obama on March 15th.

Colonel Shepro assumed command in August 2008, after serving as Vice Wing Commander of the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing and Joint Base Balad, Iraq. During his career, the U.S. Air Force Academy graduate and Olmsted scholar has flown over 2900 hours, 540 in combat, in the H-1, A-10 and F-16, and has commanded Battlefield Airmen at the squadron and group levels. He has additionally served as a jump-qualified air liaison officer with Army ground units in Iraq at several levels and coalition headquarters.

When asked how he felt, Colonel Shepro said "humbled, and honored to be able to continue serving, as we all are."

Colonel Shepro is due to relinquish command early this summer. "It will be tough to leave Andrews," he admitted. "I am often asked what is best about this job. No question it is the people and being a part of the great things they have done. They have transformed this world-renown installation into a proud joint team and have excelled in this mission as the face of the Air Force to the national leadership and to the world."
