2010 JSOH – just around the corner

By Chelsea Gitzen 316th Wing Public Affairs

Nothing sounds better on a bright and sunny day than after burners from a passing Navy F-18 Blue Angel aircraft.

This year, from May 14 through 16, Joint Team Andrews' 2010 Joint Service Open House is scheduled to feature aerial displays from the Navy Blue Angels jet team, the Army Golden Knights parachuting team, Oracle's Sean Tucker, Fagen Inc.'s Greg Poe and the Red Bull Air Force Helicopter among other performers.

The opportunity to see deadly flying machines that travel faster than the eyes can follow is something not to be passed up. The chance to see these aircraft moving in sinuous dips, dives and formations is even less passable. It sounds as if it were nearly impossible, but at an air show such as the annual JSOH at Joint Base Andrews, it's not.

Air shows such as this have traditionally been used as a great way to show the public just what members of their military are capable of.

"The idea behind the JSOH is to provide an opportunity for members of all branches of the military to come to Joint Base Andrews to show equipment that our servicemembers use every day down range and stateside," said Robert Yarbrough, 316th Wing director of plans and programs. "It's a great opportunity to showcase all of the hard work the services put into defending our nation."

The open house will feature static or aerial displays from every branch of service, truly embodying what it means to be a joint base. Not only will services work together, but also every unit from Joint Team Andrews.

"All units on base chip in and provide something for the show whether it's a display or manning for the event," said Mr. Yarbrough. "The assistance of every unit on base is what actually makes the JSOH run."
