JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
The Air Force Inspection Agency performed an inspection of wounded, ill and injured facilities on Joint Base Andrews Nov. 30.
The inspection review highlighted how effectively and efficiently the 316th Wing and the 779th Medical Group are working as a team to meet facility requirements and satisfying the needs of servicemembers needing medical attention who are living in government quarters during their treatment and recovery period.
"Throughout Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, members of the 316 WG and 779 MDG have been caring for our heroes, working hard behind the scenes to care for every wounded Soldier, Sailor, Airman and Marine returning home for treatment," said Col. Steven Shepro, 316 WG/Joint Base Andrews commander.
This exemplary care for wounded servicemembers began with a basic necessity of life - shelter.
"Beginning in 2008, the 779 MDG began a collaborative relationship with the 316th Civil Engineer Squadron to proactively identify housing that addressed the wounded warrior's specific medical and physical requirements," said Col. Robert Miller, 779 MDG commander.
It was the coordinated efforts of both members of the 779 MDG and the 316 WG that resulted in excellent teamwork that was recognized and praised by the AFIA.
"This teamwork has resulted in a cooperative synergy dedicated to ensure that the warrior's needs are met," said Maj. Gen. Gar Graham, 79th Medical Wing commander.
