ANDREWS AFB, Md. –
September 19 was a proud day for the Presidential Logistics Squadron, Presidential Airlift Group, and Team Andrews. The PAG sent 12 members to run the 26.2 miles of the Air Force Marathon at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, with 11 coming from the PLS. Despite the fact that 10 members were running their first marathon, and 10 members are over age 30, all 12 entrants completed the entire distance.
"This is amazing," said Senior Master Sgt. Timothy Wolard, PLS Lead Pro Super, "with our scattered duty schedules and around-the- clock commitments, it's a wonderful accomplishment to see such grueling training result in such a substantial accomplishment!"
Master Sgt. Mark Cantrell, PAG first sergeant, added, "This culminates a year in which this unit introduced a 9-tiered professional development program for all members, with fitness playing a major role. (It is) just a stunning accomplishment on the heels of our success at the Tom's Run Relay." His reference was to PLS sending a 17-member team last May to run the 200-mile, 2-day relay that runs along the C&O Canal in Maryland.
The PAG's 12 runners, comprise more than 5 percent of the Active Duty Air Force total. "Obviously, our goal is to beat that by 50 percent next year," said Sergeant Wolard. "This is for the entire Team Andrews community. Hopefully our success this year will motivate every unit on base about the 'power of the possible'. Maybe the base will have 50 runners next year!"
