By Pacifica Chehy Capital Flyer staff writer

All military members, retirees, DoD civilians and their guests, including children, are invited to attend the Thanksgiving Meal at Freedom Hall on Thanksgiving Day.

"We'll have shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, roast turkey, baked ham, steamship round beef, cornbread dressing, glazed sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, gravy green beans, steamed corn, peas, glazed carrots and pumpkin and pecan pies," said Staff Sgt. Loretta Nash, 316th Force Support Squadron food service quality assurance Evaluator. "Colonel (Steven M.) Shepro [316th Wing commander] and Chief Master Sgt. (James E.) Davis [316th Wing command chief] are scheduled to be our special guests, serving the meal this year from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is a time for us as a base community to be able to come together and show our appreciation to all our military personnel and their families." Sergeant Nash added that this year, the dining facility will be serving 300 pounds of turkey, 120 pounds of ham, 200 pounds of potatoes, 200 pounds of cornbread dressing and 36 pumpkin pies.

"We especially want to give an excellent Thanksgiving Day meal to those military members who couldn't take leave and have to work that day, and maybe even put a smile on their face and have them leaving the dining facility feeling good," said Sergeant Nash.

The Freedom Hall dining facility is located at 1628 California Avenue. The Thanksgiving Day meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with base leadership serving meals from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost for the Thanksgiving meals is a la carte. Carryout is available. For more information, call the dining facility at 301-981-6516.
