CAPSHIELD commences in capital region
Senior Airman Joseph Pinard, 316th Wing command post controller, sorts through paperwork at the command post during the Capital Shield 09 exercise Oct. 29 on Andrews. The command post serves as a central focal point for information for the base during attacks, in flight emergencies, and ground emergencies. The exercise consisted of multiple scenarios including suspicious packages, mass casualty training, and terrorist attack procedures. Capital Shield is an annual exercise in the National Capital Region involving civilian and military authorities such as 316th Wing, 779th Medical Group, 89th Airlift Wing, Prince George’s County Fire and Police Departments and Maryland State Police.
