The Combined Federal Campaign five kilometer run at the West Fitness Center Tuesday was the first of several events for the CFC.

"The 5 K run was organized by the Air Force District of Washington CFC team for Andrews, who works to schedule events that allow Department of Defense employees and active duty servicemembers to donate to various charities," said Tech. Sgt. Tapika Bryant, Protocol non commissioned officer in charge, AFDW Ceremonies and Protocol.

Twenty-three runners coming from all corners of Andrews took part in the run with the top three finishers for males being Tech. Sgt. Bret Baker, from AFDW A-3, who finished with a time of 18 minutes, 23 seconds; Master Sgt. Michael Steis, 316th Logistics Readiness Squadron, finished in 24:23; Ryan Ferrell, AFDW A-1, finished in 26:25. The top three finishers for females were Master Sgt. Lisa Arnold, from 844th Communications Group, who finished in 25:07; Lt. Col. Audra Griner, AFDW A-3, finished with a time of 29:48; Airman Basic Carmelle Moore, 316 LRS, finished with a time of 32:09.

The 5K run kicked off several events that will be held during the month of October with the goal of raising money and support for the CFC sponsored charities. These events are scheduled to include a car wash, bake sale, and individuals bagging groceries at the Commissary.

"We'd like to thank volunteers who gave up their time as well as the fitness center staff who provided equipment such as water, water jugs, the clock, tables, and the running route," said Sergeant Bryant.

For those interested in taking part with one of these events or donating money using a pledge form, they can contact Sergeant Bryant, AFDW, Master Sgt. Keith McCauley, 316th Wing, and Capt. Joseph Whittington, 89th Air Wing through their respective email accounts.
