Ticket giveaway: Screech greets Airmen

By Airman Katie L. Justen Staff Writer

Servicemembers received free Washington Nationals baseball tickets during their lunch hour at the base dining facility Aug. 25.

The team's mascot Screech, a bald eagle in a red baseball cap and Nationals jersey, handed out 80 tickets while entertaining the patrons with his antics.

Each servicemember received a pair of tickets to tonight's game at Nationals Park against the Atlanta Braves.

"It is a great gift because it shows support from our professional teams and the citizens of the United States of America." said Airman 1st Class Brandon Andrews, 316th Mission Support Squadron force management technician, and recipient of a pair of tickets.

"Knowing that I have that support makes me proud to serve in the military. Plus, this opportunity to attend the game gives me time to relax from every day pressures and stresses and enjoy the sights around DC," said Airman Andrews.

"The giveaway was on behalf of British Aerospace Systems, a major military contractor that pays for visits like this one through their sponsorship with the Nationals," said Whitney Dedon, Washington Nationals Baseball Club representative.

Throughout the season, the Nationals have five military appreciation games. The servicemembers sit in special seating, and are encouraged to wear their uniform, said Ms. Dedon.

"I look forward to this opportunity to cheer on the Nationals to a victory," exclaimed Airman Andrews.
