Air Force Association Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition begins Sept 15

By Air Force Association

The Air Force Association will hold its annual Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition from Sept 15-17, 2008, at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, DC.

The Technology Exposition features hundreds of exhibits and displays relating to aerospace technology, and will be open Monday from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday & Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the Exhibit Hall is free (but requires advanced registration).

In addition to the Technology Exposition, the AFA is offering an excellent professional development opportunity for military members and DoD civilian and contract employees.

The conference is composed of forums, speeches, seminars and workshops focused on national defense issues and the latest developments in air and space power as well as major addresses by senior Air Force and aerospace industry leaders. Unit-funded conference attendance is permissible. Individuals would need to submit a training form, DD 1556, to their supervisor to request attendance at the Conference.

All attendees must register, even for the free admission to the Technology Exposition. The conference schedule and the registration site can be found on the AFA website: www.afa.org.

General Norton Schwartz, Chief of Staff of the Air Force, will speak at the 2008 Air & Space Conference in one of the first opportunities to hear his vision for the U.S. Air Force.

The three-day event has a packed agenda of nearly three dozen speakers for the various forums, professional development workshops, and major addresses.

The AFA is also offering uniformed Service members, DoD civilians and DoD contractors stationed in the National Capital Region one free-day admission to the AFA Conference.

To take advantage of this offer, register in advance for the "Technology Expo Only" at this link: https://reg.jspargo.com/afa08dc/reg/default.asp. Choose the "Government/DoD" category to begin registration. Skip the page that asks for a registration code.

Report to the AFA Registration Desk in the hotel to pick up a conference badge, present your CAC card and tell them you are choosing one free day and they will give you a special conference badge for one day's admission to any of the seminars, workshops, etc. (evening events are not included in this offer.)

The uniform of the day for the exposition is any combination of blues, but service dress is required to attend the conference.

Parking is extremely limited at the conference hotel. AFA provides free shuttle bus service to and from the conference hotel from several locations in the National Capital Region: the Pentagon, Rosslyn, Bolling AFB and Andrews AFB.

The shuttle bus schedule is located at www.afa.org/events/conference/2008/. Click on "Transportation" in the center blue banner, and look for the paragraph, "AFA Shuttle Bus" where you'll find a link to the bus schedule. Metro also takes you to the hotel - take the Red Line to the Woodley Park/Zoo Metro stop. From the exit at street-level, turn right; the hotel is straight ahead.
