ANDREWS AFB, Md. –
Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), the base water provider, and Terrapin Utilities Services, Inc., the base water infrastructure manager, have released their 2008 annual water consumer confidence reports. The reports detail water quality parameters and data collected verifying water quality.
The WSSC report is available through their website at www.wsscwater.com. To contact WSSC, telephone them at 301-206-8100.
The Terrapin Utilities Services' report is available on base at both their office at R69 Pennsylvania Avenue, phone number 301-735-4101, and at the Bioenvironmental Engineering office at Suite C-114 in Building 1535, phone number 240-857-3380. Additionally, the BE portal has electronic versions for both the WSSC and Terrapin's consumer confidence reports.
Under the "Consumer Confidence Reporting Rule" of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), community water systems are required to report this water quality information annually to the consuming public. This report presents information on the water source, its constituents and any health risks associated with any contaminants.
To ensure safe drinking tap water, the Environmental Protection Agency prescribes regulations to limit the amount of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water poses a health risk. More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline
(800-426-4791) or referring to their website at
