ANDREWS AFB, Md. –
Two civilian suspects were apprehended after crashing a vehicle into the Andrews fence line June 20 around 2:30 a.m.
The incident began when Charles County Police attempted to stop, and then chased a vehicle they believed to be involved in a hit and run.
The suspect's vehicle later crashed into the perimeter fence near Old Alex Ferry Road and Dayton Avenue. The crash damaged the perimeter fence and the suspects fled their damaged vehicle into Andrews AFB.
Civilian authorities immediately contacted the 316th Security Forces Squadron for assistance and security forces were dispatched to the area. The suspects fled into the thick brush and trees behind base housing.
Maryland State Police patrolled the area with their helicopter, Trooper 2, while 316 SFS performed sector sweeps of the grounds with SFS Airmen and military working dogs. Staff Sgts. Joey Gilchrest and Gerard Ellis and Senior Airman Jacob Brown with 316 SFS Protective Services, eventually found the suspects and made the arrest.
The suspects were charged with damage to government property and trespassing.
The 316th Civil Engineer Squadron repaired the 20 foot section of the perimeter fence that was damaged.
