ANDREWS AFB, Md. –
Aerial spraying to mitigate Gypsy Moths on Andrews AFB will take place on Tuesday from 6 to 8 a.m. The rain date is Wednesday.
In conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service, the 316th Civil Engineer Squadron Environmental Flight is coordinating this aerial spray operation to mitigate a Gypsy Moth infestation of approximately 215 acres to include three areas around base: a large portion of the golf course surrounding Virginia Avenue, the wooded area surrounding the small arms range and a vacant wooded area off of Tyler Road.
A single application of pesticide, Dimilin®, will be applied by low flying helicopters to the tree canopy in the three designated areas. For safety during spraying, and 15 minutes afterward, remain indoors if located in a treatment area to let the product settle and dry. Incidental coating of cars, tools and equipment may occur within the area sprayed, it is recommended to wash these items and wash hands after handling coated materials, particularly before eating, drinking or chewing gum.
For more information on the Dimilin® label visit the Maryland Department of Agriculture at http://www.mda.state.md.us See page 21 for a spraying location map.
