Town hall meeting to provide update on base housing Thursday

By Pacifica Chehy staff writer

AMC East Communities will hold a town hall meeting on Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reel Time Theater.

"The town hall meeting will address phasing schedules for construction, as well as the impact they will have on residents," said Michael Dowling, a Development Executive at Clark Realty Capital. "We will address who will need to relocate and in what time frame that will occur. Please be assured that we will make every effort possible to minimize the impact to the residents of Liberty Park at Andrews."

A recent groundbreaking ceremony marked the demolition of 194 old housing units along Perimeter Road, specifically on Laurel, Poplar, Maple and Rosewood Courts.
"Demolition is expected to last the next eight to ten weeks," said Mr. Dowling. "After demolition is complete, CRB Military Housing will begin the construction of 134 state-of-the-art, three-bedroom homes for junior enlisted personnel. These homes are expected to be delivered in the spring of 2009."

The ceremony marked the commencement of a six-year development project that will provide 200 new residential units and 215 renovated units. As construction is in progress, residents are encouraged to keep their children away from construction sites in the interest of safety.

The new housing designs call for upgraded amenities, spacious floor plans and increased storage space, designed specifically for Air Force families. The neighborhood development plan includes new tot-lots, picnic areas and neighborhood centers.
Liberty Park at Andrews residents will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide input toward the end of the meeting. Audience members with specific questions will be asked to write down their questions during the meeting so that they may be addressed at the end of the briefing.

"This meeting will give base residents a chance to hear about the positive changes that will be occurring on base and what they can expect in terms of construction in the coming months," said Mr. Dowling.
