ANDREWS AFB, Md. –
The Air, Space and Information Operations and Plans and Requirements divisions of the Air Force District of Washington recently conducted an Aircrew Standardization and Evaluation inspection of the 316th Operations Group, who received an overall Excellent rating.
"The ASEV, which was conducted from March 31 to April 4, is an inspection which is done every two to three years," said Chief Master Sgt. Anthony Manson, 316 OG superintendent. "The purpose of the ASEV is for the respective major command or equivalent to review the wing's aircrew training and standardization and evaluation programs."
"As a recently activated Operations Group, the Air Force District of Washington must assess the unit's ability to train and evaluate our aircrews to ensure safe execution of the mission," said Col. Kenneth Volmert, 316 OG commander.
The ASEV inspects several areas in a flying wing's readiness, including Aircrew Training, Aircrew Standardization and Evaluation, Aviation Resource Management and Aircrew Life Support.
"The ASEV consisted of an inspection of the programs as well as aircrew check rides and written testing," said Capt. Paul Chappell, 316 OG chief of standardization & evaluations.
Preparation for the ASEV started eight months prior to the inspection, he said.
"This ensured our programs and aircrews were focusing on the correct themes at the proper times to 'springload for success,'" said the captain.
"Squadrons are always ready, but this is an opportunity to review, update and improve all our programs before, during and after the visit," said Colonel Volmert.
"We perform multiple self inspections during the year to ensure mission success," the colonel said.
Airmen who were recognized by the inspection team as outstanding performers include: Capt. Paul Chappell, Capt. Marcus Jackson, 1st Lt. James Rankin, 1st Lt. Ryan Prince, Master Sgt. William Dunow, Staff Sgts. Pedro Melendez and Shani Parnell, and Senior Airman Jennifer Looney.
