Base chapel sponsors couples 'weekend to remember'

By Pacifica Chehy staff writer

The base chapel sponsored eleven couples for Family Life's "Weekend to Remember" marriage seminar recently at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Reston, VA. The seminar included topics like why marriages fail, unlocking the mystery of marriage, and how to make marriages and families thrive. The base chapel paid the hotel and registration fee for each couple.

"It was an important time for couples to reconnect and give their marriages an opportunity to be revived," said Chaplain (Capt.) Deborah Hughley, 316th Wing protestant chaplain. "I learned a lot about what makes marriages fail and flourish-and all based on Godly principles." The chapel only asked couples participating to pay $50 for committing to the weekend and for their meals.

LaQuitta Moultrie and her husband of 27 years, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Greg Moultrie, attended the event. "After so many years of marriage, we'd probably be able to teach the 'Weekend to Remember" seminar," said Mrs. Moultrie. "But, they had great speakers at the conference who shared their stories-especially how they've weathered the storms that they and other married couples go through."

Mrs. Moultrie said she and Colonel Moultrie learned something they want to put into practice-even after nearly three decades of marriage: date night. "We want to make a better commitment to go on dates-especially with the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You have kids and you have your careers and your hobbies-sometimes you pass each other going up and down the steps going to your different activities. We've decided to get back to our date nights and spend quality time together."

"The chapel community is dedicated to the investment in marriages-and that's what this seminar was-an investment. Whenever opportunities like this arise, folks need to take advantage," said Chaplain Hughley. "It was a great opportunity to grow, revive and refresh marriages. The "Weekend to Remember" marriage seminar is something the chapel will continue to sponsor in years to come."

More than 1,600 people attended the marriage seminar in Reston and almost 100,000 people across the country attend the seminars annually. For more information, contact Chaplain Hughley at 301-981-2111.
