ANDREWS AFB, Md. –
The 89th Communications Squadron reached a new milestone with the opening of their expanded Government Network Operations Center Thursday.
Brig. Gen. Margaret Woodward, 89th Airlift Wing commander, presided over the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Airman 1st Class Christian Ogden, 89th Communications Squadron GNOC technician, cut the ribbon to formally begin operations in the Air Force's one-of-a-kind airborne Senior Leader Command, Control, and Communications Systems network operations center.
The newly renovated 850-square-foot facility is now a completely modernized global operations center. It provides twice as much space for its 21 personnel to perform their mission of supporting our nation's leaders. The center houses equipment to support five different communications networks.
Its personnel operate, monitor, and troubleshoot these networks, while also facilitating and coordinating activities between airborne communications systems operators and ground-based commercial and government support personnel. They also provide situational awareness and data analysis to assist with the continual improvement of this critical command and control system.
The new and improved GNOC is a shining example of the 89 AW's motto, 'SAM FOX - Perfection Is Our Standard.'
