ANDREWS AFB, Md. –
The world renowned flight attendants from the 89th Airlift Wing whipped together a holiday hor d'oeuvres culinary experience for Team Andrews members and their spouses Dec. 12 at the Executive Airlift Training Center.
The event was titled "A Culinary Holiday."
The 89 AW flight attendants showcased their talents by preparing, presenting, and serving various dishes including miniature Beef Wellingtons, baked crab rangoon, and caviar canapés.
The culinary event was designed as an opportunity for the flight attendants to showcase their SAM FOX skills while providing a glimpse to the base community how flight attendants prepare for their world class 89 AW VIP service.
"The flight attendants not only prepare the meals, but create menu choices ahead of time with the VIP passenger or their staff, then shop for all of the food and prepare it themselves," said Linda Wolcott, the Culinary Holiday coordinator and wife of Col. James Wolcott, 89th Operations Group commander. "There is no catering service involved in this operation, such as a commercial flight may have. The challenges of limited space and long duty days do not prevent them from taking care of their passengers' needs. They are truly the face of SAM FOX and we are very proud of them!"
"We all have different talents, different strengths with the various dishes that we wanted to share that anyone can make for their own holiday parties." Sergeant Miller also said, "Each year we try to prepare our favorite recipes and share tips that we have learned along the way." For instance, one tip that the flight attendants shared was the best way to cook bacon: on a sheet of foil at 350 degrees until it reaches the desired crispness.
All the flight attendants agreed on the benefits. No splatters, no burns, easy cleanup, and the bacon cooks evenly.
"I've heard such great things about flight attendants," said Stacy Logsdon, wife of Lt. Col. Vince Logsdon, 99th Airlift Squadron commander. "I wanted to come out to the Culinary Holiday event because I wanted to learn new recipes for holiday appetizers. It was really fun to get ideas for holiday parties and I gathered some great ideas."
