Straight Talk Line provides timely information

By Pacifica Chehy staff writer

With the recent decrease in temperature and increase in cold, wintery weather Team Andrews members are reminded about the Straight Talk Line.

"The Straight Talk Line provides base personnel with an informative means to gain current, accurate information about the operational status of Andrews AFB and whether normal duty reporting times will be affected during inclement weather," said Master Sgt. Alan Williams, 316th Wing Public Affairs superintendent.

During the recent snow and ice storm last week, Sergeant Williams updated the Straight Talk Line as early as 5:30 a.m., in an effort to provide the base with timely reporting instructions for the duty day.

The Straight Talk Line has an important role on base - most especially during this time of year.

"The 316th Wing Public Affairs Office is responsible for ensuring the Straight Talk Line is updated after the 316th Wing commander has determined the impact of winter weather on the base and roads leading to the base," said Sergeant Williams. "The Straight Talk Line provides current reporting instructions that can change from day-to-day, especially during the winter months when weather conditions can change drastically overnight."
There are uses for the Straight Talk Line other than just for weather-related events.
"Weather reporting is not the only reason a person would call the Straight Talk Line," said Sergeant Williams. "For instance, if there were a major disturbance on the installation, people could dial the Straight Talk Line for updated information like what areas of the base to avoid, which major streets are clear for traffic, and so on."

There are two telephone lines dedicated to the Straight Talk Line that Team Andrews members and residents can call for information and get reporting instructions. The numbers are 301-981-5995 and 301-981-2273.
