Combined Federal Campaign nears end

By Airman 1st Class Andrew Polvino 316th Wing Public Affairs

The Combined Federal Campaign nears a close with Dec. 14 being the last day for Andrews members to sign pledge cards to donate to charities.

The CFC, which began Oct. 19, ran for seven weeks, and has collected more than $307,351.

"The CFC was extended to allow all Department of Defense personnel more time to reach their goals," said Capt. Meredith Beavers, 316th Operations Group executive officer and Air Force District of Washington CFC coordinator. "Last year we raised $381,000 and we are hoping to do better before this year ends."

The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

The CFC is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign, with more than 300 CFC campaigns throughout the country and internationally raising millions of dollars each year. Pledges made by Federal civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season (Sept. 1 to Dec. 15) support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world. The Director of OPM has designated the Office of the Combined Federal Campaign responsibility for day-to-day management of the CFC.

Andrews squadrons held various fund raising events in support of the CFC during the seven weeks of eligible pledging.

"The 316th Logistics Readiness Squadron held a fashion show, which consisted of Airmen from different squadrons," said the captain. "The 316th Civil Engineer Squadron held a large car wash. Those two together brought in more than $3,000. Other units have done smaller things like bake sales and chili cook-offs to support the CFC."
Dec. 14 is the last day to fill out pledge cards.
