Andrews new Career Assistance Advisor steps up

By Pacifica Chehy staff writer

Andrews' Career Assistance Advisor, Master Sgt. Steffanie Jenkins, is busy at work in her office here. New to the position, Sergeant Jenkins takes on an important role in enlisted development and career awareness regarding entitlements, benefits and career opportunities.

"When I entered the Air Force, my first supervisor took me under her wing and that made a big impression on me," said Sergeant Jenkins. "She let me know about my career opportunities and options, and that information made an impact on the course of my career."

She is committed to giving back to the Air Force community.

"I want to do the same for other Airmen and share with them what I've learned so they can make informed decisions about their Air Force careers," said Sergeant Jenkins.
In addition to assisting enlisted personnel in making informed decisions about their Air Force future, Sergeant Jenkins also organizes three professional enhancement seminars for non-commissioned officers, senior non-commissioned officers, and airmen.

"The NCO seminar is a 3-day course that focuses on leadership skills for staff sergeants and technical sergeants," said Sergeant Jenkins. "The seminar is held at least four times per year and covers a balance of leadership, management, and personal improvement instruction. The objective of the NCO professional enhancement seminar is to fill the gap between Airman Leadership School and the NCO Academy." The most recent NCO professional enhancement seminar was scheduled Sept. 19-21 at the Military Personnel Flight in classroom 6.

"The Senior NCO professional enhancement seminar is a program structured to accentuate and build on leadership and managerial skills while setting a foundation for career progression in the senior enlisted tier for newly selected master sergeants. Guest instructors speak on relevant issues like ethics and core values, mentoring and counseling, and career progression. In addition, the program hosts a first sergeant's panel and an installation command chief leads a discussion on what it means to become a senior NCO." The next senior NCO professional enhancement seminar is scheduled Oct. 17 to 19 at the same location as the NCO seminar.

The monthly "Right Decision" briefing targets first- and second-term airmen who are 6-15 months from their date of separation. At this briefing, airmen receive information and advice to help them make an informed career decision," said Sergeant Jenkins.

"I strongly feel this is where I need to be right now," said Sergeant Jenkins. "For me, this position is a crossover. I'm a medic by trade, so this position gives me the chance to get out and meet people all around the base, and to have a positive impact on the Air Force's most critical resource, its Airmen."

For more information regarding entitlements, benefits, career opportunities, or the professional enhancement seminars, contact Sergeant Jenkins at 301-981-5676 or e-mail steffanie.jenkins@andrews.af.mil.
