ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, Md. –
As we all know, the coming of summer brings the season of the Permanent Change of Station. During this PCS season, the Andrews Veterinary Treatment Facility gives well wishes to Army Capt. Albert R. Olexia, our current base veterinarian, as he PCSs to an overseas assignment. While his assignment to Sinai, Egypt will be an exciting one, we are sure that many of his clients here in the capital district will miss him.
We are fortunate to be receiving Captain Olexia's replacement before he leaves. We welcome Army Capt. Crystal Winkler who comes to us from Ohio. As our new veterinarian, her duties will be to provide complete medical care to the Military Working Dogs assigned here and the surrounding area, conduct commercial food inspection audits on local food suppliers to the military and provide basic animal care services for the privately owned animals in the area. Emergency animal care services are not available.
During this time of transition people may notice some changes with the VTF. A great deal of this is going to be due to the increased Food Inspection Mission that is forecasted by our headquarters at Ft. Belvoir, Va.
We are doing our best to maximize our veterinarian's availability to see patients, improving and streamlining the POA appointment process while trying to integrate increased mission requirements. We will continue to strive to provide the best quality preventative medical care for your pets and over the counter pet products to help keep your pets healthy. We appreciate your patience during this time and we are looking forward to serving the Andrews community.
