ANDREWS AFB, Md. --
The 89th Airlift Wing recently consolidated the orderly rooms across the wing into one central location called the Consolidated Personnel Support Staff.
The consolidation will affect its customers, starting with its location in the 89 AW headquarters, bldg. 1419.
"We will no longer be at arm's length from our customers," said Capt. Mike Biles, 89 AW CPSS section commander.
To alleviate problems for the groups, the CPSS created a consolidated e-mail box and phone number.
Customers can expect a response within 24 hours.
The consolidation was in the works for nearly a year before it was finally implemented in April. It's a result of the impending reductions in personnel resources.
"Eventually with the manpower draw down, squadrons would be left without personnelists anyways," said Captain Biles.
The early consolidation allows for the orderly room to operate immediately without any drop-off in services after manpower cuts.
"We didn't wait, because we didn't want to feel that pain," said Senior Master Sgt. Sarah Ennis, 89 AW special projects manager. "We headed it off by consolidating now. In September, our customers won't feel a lapse in services."
The CPSS offers three types of service to its customers. The services are transactional, customer service or force development.
Transactional functions require a data input into a system, but not a face-to-face meeting with the customer.
Customer service requires a customer to visit the office and areas that affect an Airman's career directly were labeled force development.
The consolidation will ensure customers are never left waiting for answers to questions or other services.
Someone will always be available to help customers, said Captain Biles. In the past, if a customer's group or squadron personnelist was out of the office, that Airman was out of luck.
Sergeant Ennis expects to see consolidated orderly rooms implemented Air Force wide.
