ANDREWS AFB, Md. –
A new online appointment system for obtaining new Common Access Cards was implemented at the 316th Mission Support Squadron Military Personnel Flight Jan. 9.
"Staff Sgt. Phillip Ronnlof, 316 MSS MPF customer support NCOIC, was instrumental in the development of the appointment system," said Capt. Tracy A. Barnett, 316 MSS customer support chief. "He worked with the (744th) Communications Squadron and pushed the idea through to completion."
The new online appointment system greatly reduces the wait time at the MPF by scheduling a person ahead of time for a new CAC.
"The wait time for a CAC and dependent identification card has been upward of four hours at times," said the captain. "The appointment system helps us better control the flow of customers, and most importantly, get our Active Duty members and General Schedule employees back to their duty section to accomplish the mission."
The online appointment system is primarily aimed at the military members stationed here.
"We recognize how important our civilian and contract personnel are to the mission, so we've opened the system up to them also," said Captain Barnett. "Unfortunately, we cannot open it to our retirees or dependents at this time, but hopefully that will come down the road.
Additionally, when members make an appointment, it's strictly for the member and not for their dependents. Our system takes 15 to 20 minutes to produce a CAC, and if a member brings additional customers in on a scheduled appointment, it will affect other appointments."
"The appointment system is fairly simple," he said. "The individual with a CAC logs into our Web site, creates an account and schedules an appointment. The entire process takes about two minutes."
