JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
Joint Base Andrews will join the nation in observing the National Day of Mourning on Jan. 9, 2025, in honor of the late President Jimmy Carter.
President Joe Biden signed an executive order designating the closure of federal government departments and agencies on this day to pay tribute to Carter’s enduring legacy as the 39th President of the United States.
President Carter, who served from 1977 to 1981, leaves a legacy of humanitarian work, commitment to peace, and service to the nation. The Andrews community joins the nation in honoring his life and contributions.
Impacts to Base Personnel and Visitors
In support of the State Funeral, base residents and visitors should expect delays at the Main Gate and throughout the installation, including potential ramp freezes. State Funeral ceremonies at Andrews are not open to the public or unregistered personnel.
While most base services will be limited on Jan. 9, this closure does not apply to members supporting State Funeral operations or mission-essential personnel as determined by their chain of command.
