JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
The United States Forest Service has provided a tree for display on the West Lawn of the Capitol since 1970. Every year a different national forest is selected to provide the tree. This year the Capitol Christmas Tree nicknamed “Silver Belle” comes from Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Nevada and is approximately 50 years old. The tree was transported approximately 3700 miles and includes community whistle stops in nine states: Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky and finally ending in Maryland. The company, 84 Lumber, who transported Silver Belle, also donated 84 trees to military families on Joint Base Andrews.
