Malcolm Grow Medical Clinic Corner: Pharmacy update

By Capt. Truong-Vinh Phung 779th Medical Group Pharmacy Support Element Leader

The main pharmacy is located in Malcolm Grow Medical Clinic. The hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The main pharmacy processes new prescription orders that have been entered electronically by your provider. All patients with hand-written prescriptions from their providers are encouraged to use the satellite pharmacy for prescription processing.

To obtain prescriptions at MGMC that have been entered by your provider:

· First, take a ticket when you arrive in the pharmacy lobby.

· Wait for your number to be called.

· Check in at the pharmacy window as instructed.

· Have your military ID card with you.

· Once your prescription is ready, your name will appear on the monitor in the lobby for pick-up.

The satellite pharmacy is located by Home Traditions Exchange on Joint Base Andrews. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The satellite pharmacy processes all hand-written or typed prescriptions not electronically entered from providers on or off base, as well as all prescription refills.

To get prescription refills:

The pharmacy provides a phone-in refill service which is intended to save patients time. You may request refills 24 hours a day by dialing 240-857-4893 or toll free 1-888-349-2210. Call in your refill at least seven days before you expect to run out of medication so that it is ready when you need it.

If called in BEFORE 12 p.m., refills will be ready for pick-up on the next business day after 12 p.m. If prescriptions are called in AFTER 12 p.m., refills will be ready for pickup on the second business day after 12 p.m.

All base pharmacies are closed on Federal Holidays, weekends, and on the second Thursday of each month for mandatory training from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Recent Department of Defense's Pharmacoeconomic Center formulary changes:

· Sildenafil (Viagra®) is now on formulary.
