Severe weather closures at Malcolm Grow Medical Clinics and Surgery Center explained

By Melanie Moore 79th Medical Wing

When there is snow or inclement weather, Malcolm Grow Medical Clinics and Surgery Center follows the federal government, Office of Personnel Management and base closure and delayed reporting schedule.

If the federal government or base is closed all clinic appointments at MGMCSC will be cancelled. If an appointment time is before 9:30 a.m. on a delayed reporting day, those appointments will also be cancelled. Patients will receive a call to reschedule their appointments when the clinic reopens.

During government closure, the Emergent Care Center at Joint Base Andrews, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center will remain open 24 hours a day for urgent and emergency care.

Emergency Care is defined as a threat to life, limb or eye sight, such as severe bleeding, chest pain or broken bones.

Urgent Care is defined as care for an illness or injury that requires treatment within 24 hours but is not life threatening. Examples include: earache, toothache, rising fever, joint sprain or urinary tract infection.

Visits to civilian urgent care centers require prior authorization from your Primary Care Manager. Failure to do so could result in you incurring the cost for the visit. For urgent care, authorization enrollees can reach their PCM on-call provider after duty hours by calling the Emergent Care Center at (240) 857-2333.
