JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
Capt. Charles Tenney assumed command of the 11th Security Support Squadron at an activation ceremony at the 459th Air Refueling Wing headquarters auditorium here Dec. 3.
Col. Erik Goepner, 11th Security Forces Group commander, says this new squadron assumes a more administrative role than the 11th Security Forces Squadron.
"The 11th SFS has needed a support squadron for a while," Goepner said. "They will help our security forces focus more on training and active operations."
The squadron will support functions will include installation visitor access control, training, Combat Arms Training and Maintenance support to all Airmen in the National Capital Region, processing of all law enforcement actions (reports) for individual commander actions, and military working dog support for the installation as well as for presidential support, the Secret Service operations around the globe and expeditionary commitments, according to Tenney.
"As the name implies, the 11th SSPTS will handle all those functions that support the primary operational missions of the other two security forces squadrons as well as all units assigned or supported by Joint Base Andrews.
"By having a unit dedicated to performing the security support functions JBA has an SF commander and unit whose primary focus is to provide those administrative security functions that are not only dedicated to the SF mission accomplishment, but to those units on JBA whose mission requires additional physical and administrative security
measures," Tenney said.
Tenney is now one of the youngest commanders on base. Prior to assuming command of the 11th SSPTS, he was the 11th SFS operations officer.
