Joint Base Andrews has an emergency-readiness exercise

11th Wing and 79 MDW PA

EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE.

79th Medical Wing is collaborating with Team Andrews, to conduct an on-base, emergency-readiness exercise on August 13 in preparation for the upcoming air show on Sept. 19.

The exercise tested the response of base emergency personnel to a mass casualty incident and is not a real emergency situation. The exercise begin at 9 a.m. and ended at 5 p.m.

Neighbors in the surrounding area may see an increased fire, police, and ambulance presence around the base, as Joint Base Andrews will be partnering with Prince George's County emergency responders for this exercise. Neighbors may also hear tones and announcements over the loudspeaker systems, and an increased in helicopter noise as the Maryland State Police will be responding as well to transport "patients" to participating Maryland hospitals.

Special thanks go to the 79th Medical Wing Moulage Team, lead by Staff Sgt. Lavanda Jennings, who prepared 64 volunteers to play patients during the exercise.  Here are some photos from their early morning makeup session to prepare them for the exercise. It is amazing what you can do with strawberry jelly and syrup and makeup. No one was really hurt. It is all makeup.
